St. Louis, MO – A rare two-headed albino black rat snake at the World Aquarium at the City Museum has died.
Aquarium officials say the snake, known as WE, died of natural causes. WE was something of a celebrity, appearing on Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom and Live with Regis and Kelly during his life.
In December of 2005, WE was put up for auction to support conservation research at the World Aquarium, but officials there later decided to keep WE after getting a lackluster response to the auction.
Just a year prior to that, WE was stolen and returned after a few days.
Scientists also unsuccessfully tried to breed WE with another 2-headed snake, named Golden Girls. There were plans to try again this summer.
