State audit begins in St. Peters

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis – The state of Missouri has begun auditing the city of St. Peters.

Organizers of the petition drive that triggered the audit say they want a full accounting of how their city officials have been spending public money.

Robert Armstrong, of St. Peters Citizens for Responsible Government, said contracts for the Lakeside 370 Business Park development are a particular area of concern.

"A lot of people figured it was long overdue because the previous administration was very questionable on some of their ethical practices," Armstrong said.

Former St. Peters Mayor Shawn Brown is serving time in federal prison for taking a bribe from a company that installs traffic light cameras.

The new mayor, Len Pagano, said he welcomes the audit, and even signed the petition requesting it.
