St. Louis, MO – A St. Louis man was sentenced to two years probation Tuesday for posing as a Marine and wearing military medals that were not awarded to him.

Michael Gerald Weilbacher, 48, will also serve 120 days community service at a military organization and pay a $3,000 fine as part of his sentence. He pleaded guilty February first.

Weilbacher appeared at the U.S. Marine Corps Ball in St. Louis in November wearing several medals and decorations, including the Navy Cross, the Marines' second-highest medal.

Several people later contacted the FBI, suspecting Weilbacher was not authorized to wear the medals.

In his plea, he admitted he had never been a Marine and had not been awarded the Navy Cross.
