St. Louis, MO. – A Missouri agency is working to return unclaimed property to veterans and active military members.
The state treasurer's office is matching databases from the Veteran's Commission with its database of those with unclaimed property.
State Treasurer Sarah Steelman says she's especially hoping to help those serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.
"They're under a lot of financial pressure to begin with, so we hope that in our small way this can help them if they have unclaimed property that's due them we want to get it back in their hands," Steelman said.
Steelman says about 2,600 matches have been made so far between the databases.
The treasurer's office oversees about $400 million worth of unclaimed property held by the state.
