St. Louis, MO – Long-time Vashon basketball coach Floyd Irons was fired Tuesday night by the St. Loius School Board.
The move came seven months after an internal audit found the school's basketball program mis-managed thousands of dollars. There had been no approval, for example, to buy a $50,000 scoreboard and $100,000 in new uniforms.
The well-known Irons coached Vashon to 10 basketball state championships in 33 years, including last year.
Officially, the board eliminated the job Irons held at Vashon. He can be re-assigned to a teaching job but isn't allowed to coach.
