Illinois gamblers might soon be carded

By AP/KWMU

Chicago, Ill. – The Illinois Gaming Board is considering requiring every person to present an ID before entering a casino.

Officials say it would be a way to screen for compulsive gamblers who have voluntarily banned themselves from Illinois' nine casinos.

Board member Gene O'Shea says three Illinois casinos card those who look young to make sure they're 21. One of those casinos found matches to 48 people on the state's self-exclusion list in just the last six months.

Casino companies have been cautious about embracing such measures and state gaming officials say they don't know of other states that require all gamblers be carded.
