Kansas City, MO – Leaders at Kansas City's airport say they're disappointed with the number of passengers this year.
Just more than 8 million people used Kansas City International through October. Last year, the airport drew 9.7 million passengers, which had leaders hoping they might break 10 million this year.
Instead, they're blaming the smaller numbers on hurricanes Katrina and Rita, and a shaky stock market. Tom McKenna, the aviation department's marketing director, says the hurricanes caused several airports to close temporarily. And a flat stock market means fewer people spending money on travel.
