St. Louis, MO – Former U.S. Senator Jean Carnahan might leave a St. Louis hospital today (Tuesday) after getting a pacemaker implanted this weekend.
Carnahan, 71, spent the weekend at Barnes-Jewish hospital.
She's the widow of the late Governor Mel Carnahan, who died in a plane crash in 2000 while campaigning for senate. Jean Carnahan was appointed to the Senate after her Mel still won that race. She then ran against Republican Jim Talent in a special election in 2002 and lost.
The Carnahans' daughter, Robin, is Missouri's Secretary of State. Their son, Russ, is a congressman from St. Louis.
