St. Louis, MO. – Two people remain hospitalized this afternoon after last night's Amtrak train derailment in Jefferson County.
Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari says the passenger and crew member are both in satisfactory condition.
One hundred and three passengers were on the Texas Eagle heading from Chicago to San Antonio when the train ran into boulders on the track.
Magliari says the local officials responded quickly.
We had a really professional and prompt emergency response in Jefferson County, with credit to the sheriff and police and emergency responders out of DeSoto and the surrounding areas, Magliari said.
The track, owned by Union Pacific, is expected to be cleared by this evening.
Officials with the National Transportation Safety Board have said they will not investigate.
