Belleville, Ill. – More than 300 people attended a candle light vigil at Belleville East High School Monday night to remember a senior who would have graduated May 22nd.
Chad Wood, 18, died when he apparently lost control of his car on a wet roadway south of Scott Air Force Base and hit a utility pole. Police say he wasn't wearing a seat belt.
The Mascoutah teen was a football and baseball player, who had been accepted to Illinois College in Jacksonville. His parents found out he was accepted just hours after he died.
Baseball coach Todd Blomberg said the team would play today's (Tuesday) home game against Granite City with Wood's Number Five jersey hanging in the dugout.
