Jefferson City, Mo. – A survey finds nearly a quarter of
Missouri's polling places were inaccessible to disabled voters last
year.
And of the polling places that were accessible, almost half had at least one significant barrier for disabled voters.
Those results came from an Associated Press analysis of a survey done for the Missouri Secretary of State's office. As part of the survey, inspectors relied on ADA guidelines to analyze thousands of polling places statewide.
The survey analysis found less than a third of the state's polling places allow disabled voters to enter without assistance.
Disability advocates said these types of barriers can discourage disabled Missourians from voting.
