By Tom Weber, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Missouri State Representative Catherine Hanaway has gotten a lot of credit for big Republican wins two years ago and again last month.

She's led her party in the House for four years, and two years ago became the first-ever woman Speaker of the Missouri House.

Hanaway lost her bid last month for Secretary of State to Democrat Robin Carnahan, which will soon leave her without a job. She recently spoke with KWMU's Tom Weber.

Hanaway says her biggest feats were changing the state's foster care system and finding more money for life sciences. But she adds the biggest challenge next year will be changing the way schools get state money.
