Jefferson City, MO – Missouri's budget shortfall is now more than a hundred million dollars.
Governor Bob Holden's budget chief says that amount could triple in the next eight months, meaning more spending cuts are likely.
That forecast was issued as Holden announced a series of public meetings around the state to talk about the budget and possible cuts. The governor will also discuss eliminating what he calls business tax loopholes.
Holden's office says the "Fair Share Budget Summits" could be used to shape the governor's budget message to state lawmakers in January.
Meetings will be:
- Thursday at 3:00 pm at the Harry S. Truman Library in Independence.
- Friday at 3:00 pm at the Daniel Boone Regional Library in Columbia.
- Monday at noon at the Springfield Chamber of Commerce.
- Tuesday at 1:00 pm at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.
