Hartford, IL – School officials say Premcor's request to cut the tax assessment of its Hartford plant would cost three local districts big bucks. They estimate the loss would be about 680-thousand dollars in
annual tax revenue. Officials say school superintendents plan to work together against the company's request.
The districts are the East Alton-Wood River High School District, the Roxana School District and the Wood River-Hartford Elementary District.
The Connecticut-based petroleum company is shutting down refining operations at the Metro East plant. But company spokesman Joe Watson says it will use its tanks and docking facilities for storage and distribution. Watson says based on that the company cut its own valuation of
the property and asked that its tax assessment be reduced.
