From Children’s Theater To Burlesque – St. Lou Fringe Festival Returns For Second Year

(Courtesy: St. Lou Fringe)

The St. Lou Fringe Festival debuted last year and is back for a five day festival this month which takes place at performance spaces throughout Midtown.

Em Piro, founder and executive director of St. Lou Fringe told Cityscape host Steve Potter, “the fringe model has been used worldwide for over 60 years and it was a really exciting opportunity to bring it here to St. Louis.”

St. Lou Fringe is billed as an immersion experience in “uncensored, unjuried, and accessible performing arts connecting brave artists and bold audiences.”  Acts include drama, dance, comedy, music, spoken word, performance art and burlesque.

“Since our first season last year, we’ve built up an even stronger network,” Piro said.

Along with Piro, Potter was joined by Blaire Hamilton, who goes by the stage name Blyre Cpanx (rhymes with Tyra Banks).  She is a performance artist who dabbles in character performing, using outlets such as drag, burlesque, experimental music, dance and hula hoop. Hamilton is producing a variety burlesque show for the festival.

St. Louis actor and director Ed Reggi also joined Potter to talk about “Asperger’s: A High Functioning Musical,” which he is directing.
