This article first appeared in the St. Louis Beacon, Aug. 31, 2012 - For 40 years, Joe Edwards has been collecting all kinds of knick-knacks and line the walls at his Delmar Loop restaurant, Blueberry Hill.
He’s collected a huge range of pop-culture artifacts, including old jukeboxes, Rock & Roll beer cans, figurines from “The Simpsons,” items from the old TV show “Howdy Doody” and so on. Edwards has gotten plenty of requests to buy certain items over the years.
“I’ve always said no,” he said.
But Edwards says he’s finally run out of space. So he’s holding a sale of “hundreds, if not well over a thousand,” items at Blueberry Hill this Sunday, Sept. 2, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the restaurant’s Elvis Room.
He plans to spread the items out over large tables and price them at $1, $2, $5, $10 and $25.
“I really don’t know what [the] things are worth,” Edwards said, adding that he’s always collected objects based on characters or movies that he has enjoyed.
The event is one of 40 events Edwards is putting on to celebrate Blueberry Hill’s 40th birthday, which takes place on Sept. 8. (For more on the anniversary party, check out the website.)
“I have so much stuff … I’d rather have someone enjoy [it],” he said. Plus, “it’s hard to fill up 40 days.”
