For years, there’s been interest in trying to develop more housing, business and recreation around MetrLink stations in the St. Louis area.
Tuesday evening the East-West Gateway Council of Governments will begin hosting a series of community meetings to gather feedback on one such effort.
Paul Hubbman of East West Gateway Council of Government is project manager for the study.
He says one of their goals is to understand why business development around MetroLink stations has been slow to materialize.
“It didn’t generate the type of development they were hoping for,” Hubbman says. “One of the reasons for doing this to begin with was trying to figure out, why not. Then develop strategies for beginning to strategies to address that.”
Hubbman says the study has identified five stations where potential for economic development is especially high and is assembling recommendations on how local stakeholders can attract private dollars to those stations.
The study is funded by a Regional Communities Planning Grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
