Update On The Future Home Of St. Louis Public Radio

Second Floor Model

We’re closing in on six months since the groundbreaking in April on the site of UMSL at Grand Center, the new home for St. Louis Public Radio on Olive Street in Grand Center. The progress being made in the construction has been incredible as most of the steel framing has been completed and we are close to pouring cement for the building’s three floors.

One of the interesting architectural features of the building is how parts of the building protrude from the structure and almost appear to be over Olive Street. The west view of the Central West End, including the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis, is remarkable.

Of course what takes place in the new facility is really why we are moving to Grand Center and that will mean doubling the number of our studios so that we can produce more original programming, increased newsroom space for more reporters and producers, and a multi-purpose space that will allow us to do live broadcasts from the facility. In addition, the opportunity for deeper partnerships with our future neighbors in Grand Center is also an exciting opportunity for us.

Our plans are to move into the new building in the Spring of 2012 as construction and fundraising for the facility continue into the fall and winter.

More photos of the building and the progress being made on the construction are available on our Flickr page.
