One of two jail escapees back in custody

St. Louis – One of two federal defendants who escaped from the Lincoln County jail in Troy, Mo. on Monday is back in custody.

John Wesley Jones was arrested without incident around 7:15 Wednesday morning in Swansea, Ill. Corey Durand Cross remains at large.

Jones and Cross climbed to the roof of the jail around 3:30 a.m. Monday, then scaled down a 30-foot wall. Prison officials did not notice the pair was missing for another four hours.

Jones is a suspect in the August robbery of ATM Solutions, though he has not been charged. He was in custody on weapons charges; Cross faces drugs and weapons charges.

The federal government has transferred all its prisoners from the Lincoln County jail until security questions are answered.
