St. Louis, MO. – The Poplar Street Bridge ramp, which shed some concrete Sunday, is structurally sound.
Missouri Department of Transportation bridge inspectors took a closer look at the ramp to westbound I-55 Monday and found the concrete was from the outer edge of the ramp.
MoDOT spokeswoman Linda Wilson says the inspectors are checking nearby bridges too.
"While they were here they decided to look at all of the other bridges along I-70 and I-55 through the depressed section and through the Poplar Street Bridge complex," Wilson said.
Motorists can expect one lane of traffic on northbound I-55 and westbound I-70 to be closed Tuesday.
Wilson says there's no long-term fix for the concrete cracks other than replacing the ramps.
She says MoDOT intends to begin that process after the new Mississippi River Bridge is complete in 2014.
