St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis Police Department is investigating the theft of thousand of dollars from a non-profit fund that pays for the police officers' annual memorial breakfast.
According to police chief Dan Isom, the theft of the money came to light recently after his office raised questions about the annual breakfast, which honors slain officers.
The police department's civilian employee who volunteered with the non-profit association resigned and is now cooperating with the investigation. The employee used to be a police officer but his or her name is not being released. No charges have been filed yet and no other employees are considered suspects.
The exact amount of money that was stolen from the fund hasn't been determined.
This is just the latest in a string of internal investigations and indictments at the police department. Chief Isom says such behavior will not be tolerated.
