Jefferson City, MO – Missouri Governor-elect Jay Nixon plans to meet with Republican legislative leaders to map out a plan for addressing the state's needs.
In a conference call today with reporters, Nixon said he intends to talk about shared principles with GOP leaders as a means of setting the groundwork for increasing jobs, health care access, and making college more affordable.
"Missouri faces real challenges now, but the only way we're going to solve those challenges is working together, and we look forward to doing that," Nixon said.
Nixon also spoke by phone today with his long-time political rival, outgoing Governor Matt Blunt.
Nixon says they had a good and fruitful discussion about the upcoming transition process.
"He pledged, as I do, to run a transition that makes the passage of power in the state of Missouri one that benefits the taxpayers, and I look forward to doing that," Nixon said.
In a statement to the media, Blunt said that he congratulated Nixon, and that he has offered the full resources of his office and the Office of Administration during the transition period.
