Mo. Guard won't use same soldiers for Ike

By Marshall Griffin, KWMU

Jefferson City, MO – The roughly 1,200 Missouri National Guard troops currently in Louisiana will not be used to respond to whatever damage Hurricane Ike may cause in the U.S.

Captain Tammy Spicer says if asked again, other Missouri Guard troops would be used.

"With the exception of some specialty skills, maybe some communication teams, some smaller elements...but no, by and large, the soldiers that are serving in Hurricane Gustav relief are expected to return home to Missouri," Spicer said.

Spicer also says the Missouri National Guard expects to be released from its current mission in Louisiana before Hurricane Ike makes landfall.
