St. Louis, MO. – Opera Theatre of Saint Louis is losing its long-time director.
The Santa Fe Opera announced Friday that Charles MacKay will become its general director.
MacKay has been the director in St. Louis since 1985.
He says it's been rewarding to help bring up talent, including such stars as Christine Brewer.
"Christine Brewer began her career with Opera Theatre St. Louis and I'm very proud of the fact that her first leading role in opera was during my tenure," MacKay said. "Of course, Christine is now one of the most sought-after sopranos anywhere in the world of opera."
MacKay is a native of Santa Fe and began his career at Santa Fe Opera.
His new job begins in October of next year.
