East St. Louis, Ill. – A policeman in East St. Louis has filed a complaint alleging the predominantly black city discriminated against him because he is white.
Although he was hired in December as one of three new officers, Chris Heatherly has not spent a single day on patrol and isn't on the payroll.
Police Chief Michael Baxton maintains Heatherly will join the force soon, but a few personnel issues are still being straightened out.
At the time, Baxton called Heatherly the "most qualified" candidate of the officers hired in December. One of those has already been fired for fighting outside a Belleville bar.
