St. Louis teams set records for longest baseball game ever

By Adam Allington, KWMU

St. Louis – Two baseball teams from St. Louis were entered into the Guinness Book of World Records yesterday for the longest ballgame ever played.

The game lasted for 32 hours and 29 minutes breaking the previous record of 30 hours and 5 minutes set by two teams in Alliance, Nebraska.

Steve Pona helped organize the game. Going into the bottom of the 92nd inning he was still confident his team could rally to erase a 37 run deficit. "Yeah, we're a few behind but we've been playing possum," Pona said. "We're gonna come back and get it in the bottom of the 96th I think."

The charity ball game raised nearly $100,000 for the Gene Slay Boys and Girls Club in the Soulard Neighborhood.

The final score after 92 innings was 118 to 81.
