St. Louis – St. Louis-based Monsanto Company has announced it's spending $155 million to expand its operations in Nebraska.
Monsanto will build one new seed processing plant and upgrade another operation in Nebraska.
The expansion will add more than 55 full-time jobs and nearly 2,000 part-time jobs for the state.
Darren Wallis with Monsanto said the investment is an attempt to meet the growing demand for DeKalb brand corn seed products throughout the Western Corn Belt.
"Nebraska is a very good corn growing state and we rely on them to be able to produce these quality seeds for us and these two facilities will be able to take advantage of that," Wallis said.
Once both facilities are complete in 2009, Wallis said the company will be able to double its corn seed production.
