Jefferson City, MO – A member of the Missouri House is accusing the commission that nominates candidates for the State Supreme Court of violating the state's sunshine law.
Republican House Member Jim Lembke of St. Louis says the Judicial Appellate Commission and its chair, Chief Justice Laura Denvir Stith, broke the law by meeting in secret to choose 3 nominees to fill a vacancy on the State Supreme Court.
"I am calling on the commission to comply with the sunshine law, and to release their records, documents, transcripts, and other information gathered from their secret proceedings."
In response, commission Secretary Richard McLeod issued a statement saying they're exempt from Missouri's sunshine law, and that it would be illegal to provide information to certain politicians and others that have requested it.
