Jefferson City, MO – A Missouri lawmaker is proposing legislation that would create an online driver's education course.
Democrat Judy Baker, of Columbia, plans to introduce the bill during next year's regular session. She says it would make driver's ed curriculum available online 24/7 to all high school students in Missouri.
"There's a couple of vendors out there that have lots of products that you can purchase for curriculum, and then they'reweb-based, and have some simulation to them," Baker said.
"They can do things like, you know, they can show lane changes, and they can show road conditions - there's signaling, all kinds of things, all kinds of situations that you can simulate on the computer for them."
If approved, the online driver's ed course would take 9 weeks to complete and cost about $155 per student. Baker says she'll also seek financial aid for any low-income students who would enroll.
Baker won't introduce the measure until next year, when the next spring session begins.
