Columbia, MO. – U.S. Senator Kit Bond says he agrees with President Bush's decision to commute former White House aide Lewis "Scooter" Libby's 30-month prison sentence.

The Missouri Republican says the judge's decision was too severe and commuting Libby's sentence was necessary

"I don't think that disagreeing with one or two reporters over who said what to whom warrants a thirty month prison sentence," Bond said. "I thought that was too harsh a sentence."

Bond says that Libby did not have an opportunity to present his full defense on charges that he obstructed an investigation into the leak of a CIA operative's identity.

Illinois' senior U.S. Senator Dick Durbin meanwhile is critical of the commutation.

The Democrat says that even socialite Paris Hilton had to go to jail.
