Flooding continues in western MO; forecasts improve in eastern MO

By Kelly Weiss, KCUR

Kansas City, MO – Residents of small towns in Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri are bracing for the worst flooding along the Missouri River in more than a decade.

Flood crest predictions have fallen a little below early estimates, and small towns like Riverside, Mo., are hopeful that levees that have been built or bolstered since a 1993 flood will hold.

Downstream, Missouri City residents are sandbagging the banks, hoping to prevent a breach like that of 1993, which wiped out half the homes in the town of 300.
