St. Louis, MO – Denver Broncos running back Damien Nash was remembered Monday by friends and family at the Friendly Temple Missionary Baptist Church in St. Louis.
More than 1,000 people gathered at Nash's funeral, including his teammates from the Denver Broncos and University of Missouri Tigers. Broncos coach Mike Shanahan spoke at the funeral.
Nash died February 24th, soon after a charity basketball game he hosted in north St. Louis County. He was 24. Final autopsy results are not expected for several weeks.
Nash collapsed in his suburban St. Louis home after returning from the game to benefit The Darris Nash Find a Heart Foundation.
The organization raises money for heart transplant research. Nash's 25-year-old older brother underwent a heart transplant last year.
