St. Louis – Prosecutors charged St. Louis Rams tight end Dominique Byrd Monday for allegedly hitting a bar patron in the face with a drinking glass.
Police spokeswoman Schron Jackson says the 30-year-old victim confronted the player around 1:30 a.m.
The man said the player groped the victim's female friend at the Pepper Lounge, a restaurant and bar in St. Louis.
The victim said Byrd then struck him in the face with a drinking glass.
The victim suffered facial cuts. Police say the Rams player had a laceration to his right hand.
Byrd was charged with second- and third-degree assault and armed criminal action.
Lawyer Scott Rosenblum says his client will plead not guilty. He says professional athletes can be targets for people with less than honorable intentions.
