MO-DOT to get Hwy 40 bids Friday

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – The Missouri Department of Transportation will soon begin evaluating the competing proposals to rebuild Highway 40.

Two construction teams made up of several large contractors are vying for the $535 million project.

Their plans are due to MO-DOT on Friday. The department will pick a winner by November 17, then state transportation commissioners will make a final decision.

Spokeswoman Linda Wilson says the construction timeline is one of the criteria on which the teams will be evaluated.

We expect construction to start in the spring of 2007, and we have given them a deadline of no later than October 1, 2010, Wilson said.

Wilson says MO-DOT will also examine the teams' plans for dealing with traffic, and communicating with the public.
