Joplin, MO. – Governor Matt Blunt said today that he thought it was worth discussing proposals from some lawmakers that would allow teachers to carry firearms in school but would not require it.

The governor happened to be in Joplin today for a meeting when a seventh-grader walked into a middle school in the city and fired one shot.

Police say it appeared the 13-year-old had planned a major attack. No one was injured in the incident.

Blunt says after school shootings around the country earlier this month, he had already told the State Department of Public Safety to talk with school boards around the state about enhancing school safety.

And he says he's going to add a school representative to regional homeland task forces around the state.
