Son of Madison County Treasurer arrested in yard sign fight
Edwardsville, Ill. – The son of Madison County's treasurer has been arrested after police say he punched a businessman who wouldn't display a sign for his dad.
Edwardsville police say Jacob Bathon, 26, attacked a funeral home director, shoving him several times and throwing several punches. His father is Treasurer Fred Bathon, who faces Republican Kurt Prenzler next month.
Jacob Bathon was arrested and charged with battery; he was freed after posting $100 bond.
The funeral director was not arrested or charged. Neither man required medical treatment.
According to Fred Bathon's campaign website, Jacob is a father and has a business degree from SIU-Edwardsville.
