St. Louis – A police officer from a north St. Louis County suburb has been indicted for taking part in a multi-million dollar drug operation.
Hillsdale Police Sergeant Christopher Cornell turned himself in to the FBI Friday.
U.S. Attorney Catherine Hanaway said Cornell is accused of pulling over cocaine curriers in order to help steal the drugs and give them to the leader of the drug ring.
"It's a sad story," Hanaway said. "It's a sad day when we have to announce that a police officer cooperated with drug dealers."
Five others were also indicted, including Bruce Gales, the owner of Galez Towing and Recovering. He allegedly towed the curriers cars and turned the cocaine over to the drug ring.
The indictment says the ring distributed 120 kilograms of cocaine that brought in more than $2 million.
All six men could face up to life in prison and a fine of up to four million dollars.
