St. Louis, MO – St. Louis-based Anheuser-Busch announced today (Wednesday) that August Busch IV will take over as the company's new president and CEO in December.

The move returns leadership of the company to the Busch family, which bought the brewery in 1860. Busch IV, 42, will be the fifth generation in his family to lead the company.

He has since 2002 lead the company's domestic business.

Busch IV takes over for Patrick Stokes, who has been president and CEO since July, 2002. Stokes will take on the new role of chairman of the company's board in December.

In taking the board chairmanship, Stokes will replace August Busch III, who will retire but continue to serve on the board.

"I am proud to accept this challenge that carries a great deal of personal meaning for me," said Busch IV in a statement. "My father and Pat leave behind a legacy of unparalleled excellence. I am eager to set an agenda that capitalizes on this company's history of success."
