Jefferson City, MO – An effort to do something with the site of an old Army ammunition plant near I-70 and Goodfellow in north St. Louis got a boost yesterday.
The state is now making $22 million in tax credits available to whoever takes on the project to re-develop the site. The area needs, among other things, to be cleaned of asbestos and lead-based paint.
The governor's office said Tuesday that turning the plant into a retail, restaurant and commercial space could net nearly 200 new jobs.
The vacant site operated from 1941 to 1989.
