Jefferson City, MO – The Missouri Senate Thursday gave initial approval to legislation that does away with mandatory vehicle inspections.
The proposal was added to a bill changing the emissions testing program in the St. Louis area. Senator Charlie Shields offered the amendment on inspections.
He says he's not convinced they make Missouri roads any safer, and he often hears from people who don't like them.
The measure needs another vote to move to the House - where Speaker Rod Jetton also favors abolishing mandatory inspections.
