Belleville, Ill. – Southern Illinois Congressman Jerry Costello says a family friend from the Metro-East town of Shiloh was killed this week in Afghanistan.
Costello says Staff Sergeant Edwin Dazachacon and three others died when their vehicle hit a land mind and came under fire. Dazachacon, 38, served with Costello's son during the first Gulf War.
He later moved to the Metro East to be close to the Costellos, and re-enlisted in the Army a few years ago to fight the war on terrorism.
Dazachacon was with the Army's Seventh Special Forces Group out of North Carolina's Fort Bragg.
Funeral arrangements are pending.
