Kansas City, MO. – Vice President Dick Cheney spoke to a crowd of workers at the Harley Davidson plant in Kansas City Friday.
Cheney says the economy has faced a number of challenges over the past few years including corporate scandals, high energy prices, and hurricanes.
But the vice-president says a falling unemployment rate and growth in manufacturing output are signs of a strong economy.
We had all of these challenges, one after another, but yet the real story of the last few years is the incredible resilience of our economy, and of the American people, Cheney said.
The Vice president credited the administration's tax cuts with helping buoy the economy.
Cheney also urged Congress to reauthorize the Patriot Act and defended the President's authorization of domestic wiretaps, saying both aid the fight against terrorism.
