Ryan trial delayed after co-defendant hospitalized

By AP/KWMU

Chicago, Ill. – The trial of former Illinois governor George Ryan is on hold until next week because the man Ryan's accused with was hospitalized on Thursdya.

Attorneys say Ryan's long-time friend and business partner Larry Warner fell outside a Chicago restaurant, and was bleeding en route to the hospital. But Warner, 67, is listed in good condition.

Ryan and Warner have been on trial, facing the corruption charges, since September.

Before the accident, a former state investigator had testified that Ryan was called immediately after evidence was found during a March 1993 raid that drivers licenses were being exchanged for campaign money at a licensing station in Libertyville.

The trial resumes Monday.
