Springfield, Ill. – The deputy director of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources will serve as interim director until a permanent agency head is found.
Spokeswoman Abby Ottenhoff says Sam Flood will run the DNR until a replacement is found for Joel Brunsvold, who retires Saturday. She says Flood isn't being considered for the top job.
Flood was promoted to deputy director at DNR in October. His primary duty was listed as overseeing construction of the World Shooting Complex near Sparta.
Brunsvold has been in state government for more than 30 years and has been DNR director since April 2003. Ottenhoff says he's retiring to spend more time with his family.
