FedEx Freight pays up in discrimination suit

By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO. – FedEx Freight East will pay $500,000 to settle charges of discriminating against black dock workers in St. Louis.

The lawsuit was filed in 2003 by the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on behalf of 20 black employees of what was then American Freightways.

The EEOC says blacks were denied promotions from part-time to full-time jobs at the trucking terminal in St. Louis.

Another was denied promotion to a supervisory position.

Six black dockworkers joined in the lawsuit and the settlement.
