St. Louis, MO. – The $10.5 billion relief package for hurricane victims is quickly moving to the president's desk.
The House approved the measure Friday following last night's thumbs-up from the Senate.
Missouri Republican Senator Kit Bond acknowledges critics who say the federal government's response has been slow and inadequate.
"It is primarily a local and state responsibility with the federal government
backing it up, Bond said. So the fact that they didn't get out is of grave concern because everybody knew it was a disaster, and yet there was no plan to get the 20 percent of New Orleans out of there who are the ones who are suffering the most.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency is reportedly spending more than a half a billion dollars each day on recovery operations.
