St. Louis, MO. – St. Louis County Police will begin accepting applications Wednesday for concealed gun permits.

The Missouri Legislature passed a concealed and carry law in 2003, but a court challenge delayed its implementation.

Missouri Governor Matt Blunt signed legislation Tuesday that specifically allows counties to use permit fees to pay for background checks and other administrative costs.

Lieutenant Chris Stocker with the St. Louis County Police says the department will be ready to take applications Wednesday.

"We have staff that have been dedicated solely to the CCW application process. So we're going to make every effort to expedite anybody's interest in the application process," Stocker said.

Stocker says applicants will need to bring a valid Missouri drivers license, a firearms qualification certificate, as well as the permit application and $76 fee.

The City of St. Louis will start taking applications August 1.
