Illinois lawmakers also debating school funding formula

Springfield, Ill. –

Missouri lawmakers passed a major change in the way the state funds schools on Thursday.

Governor Matt Blunt is expected to sign the changes into law, even though the bill doesn't say where the money for the changes will come from.

The action in Missouri is a stark contrast to Illinois, where schools are also struggling financially.

A plan to combine an income tax hike with some property tax relief is moving in Springfield.

But as Illinois Public Radio's Sean Crawford reports, its momentum - unlike Missouri - could be short-lived.
