LIBERTY, Mo. – A school bus carrying 53 children crashed into two vehicles at a busy intersection Monday, killing two people in the vehicles and injuring more than 20 children.
Police say 23 students were taken to three area hospitals with injuries and 15 were released to their parents.
Jennifer Benz is a spokeswoman at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. She says two children are in critical condition and three are in serious condition.
She says they're treating head injuries, broken bones and back pain.
The cause of the crash is under investigation.
Dozens of workers at nearby businesses rushed to the scene to help the children off the bus.
Vickie Whattoff was one of about 20 people who responded. She says many of the children were bleeding and crying for their
parents.
