St. Louis – St. Louis-based agribusiness giant Monsanto says the Illinois Attorney General's office has served the company a subpoena for information on the pricing and licensing of its biotech seed technology.
A spokeswoman for Attorney General Lisa Madigan says it's that office's policy not to publicly discuss subpoenas.
Monsanto is keeping mum on the details too, but spokeswoman Lori Fisher says
the company is cooperating with the state.
"We firmly believe that Monsanto has and continues to compete fairly in establishing the value that our products have brought to our seed customers and our farmers," Fisher said. "And we'll be happy to provide the information to the attorney general's office as requested."
Monsanto says it has explained its past technology and seed licensing practices in formal and informal circumstances, including court proceedings.
